SEO Audits for Therapists
You built a website. So why isn't Google sending you more clients?
You followed the best advice out there. You added a blog. You wrote a thoughtful About page. Maybe you even paid someone thousands to "do SEO." And still, when a potential client searches for a therapist in your area, your practice is nowhere to be found.
Most therapists in this position are guessing. They tweak a headline, add another blog post, and hope things improve. The problem isn't effort, it's working without a diagnosis.
An SEO audit replaces the guessing with a clear picture: how Google currently sees your site, what's working, what's holding you back, and which of those things are worth your time. Some results of your audit may point to quick fixes. Some of it may be longer work. Either way, you stop guessing and start working from a real plan — one built around where your practice can realistically compete, not a generic checklist.
Most therapist websites are not competing against impossible odds. They're competing against other therapist websites that also have no strategy. A focused, well-structured page aimed at the right searches can move — and a Clinique Digital Consulting SEO Audit tells you where that's possible and where it isn't.
How a Clinique Digital SEO audit works
I’ve built the SEO audit on three steps. A serious research tool, a deep analysis, and a licensed therapist reviewing every word before it reaches you.
01 — The Research Engine
A look at your market that you can't get on your own.
Most SEO advice online is generic. Mine starts with data — I run your website and your local market through a professional marketing-intelligence platform that costs thousands of dollars a year and takes real expertise to interpret.
Think of it as a giant observatory pointed at Google. It tracks billions of real searches and stores a detailed picture of how search results behave: the exact words and phrases people type when they're looking for a therapist, how often those searches happen, and how competitive each one is. It takes regular snapshots of who currently ranks for what, so we can see which practices are winning the searches you want — and why. It studies anonymized browsing patterns to estimate how much traffic a page pulls. And it runs its own web crawler that scans your site page by page, the way a search engine does, flagging the technical issues that keep you down the rankings.
02 — The Analysis
Where the data becomes a plan.
The research engine generates an enormous amount of information: search terms your potential clients use, the pages currently winning those searches, the structure of those pages, and the gaps in your own website.
I've developed a proprietary process for analyzing this data and turning it into actionable recommendations. Over time, I've refined that process through work with therapist websites across a wide range of specialties, locations, and practice models.
The goal isn't to identify every possible issue. It's to identify the issues most likely to improve your visibility and the opportunities most worth pursuing. That means looking for patterns in the search results, understanding what competing pages are doing well, and finding places where your website can better meet what prospective clients are looking for.
The result is a report that tells you exactly how key pages on your website should be restructured: what they need, how the headings should be organized, what content to add, what content to remove, and where your best opportunities for growth exist.
Specific. Practical. Ready to implement.
03 — The Clinical Review
A licensed therapist reviews every word.
Data can tell you what is happening. It can't tell you whether a recommendation that makes sense from an SEO standpoint makes sense for your clinical practice.
I personally review every recommendation in your audit. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with more than 25 years in private practice, I evaluate the findings through the lens of a practicing therapist. That means ensuring the recommendations are clinically appropriate, ethically sound, and realistic for the way therapy practices operate.
I also review the tone and voice of your existing website so that any suggested changes feel authentic to your practice. The goal isn't to make your website sound like a marketing agency wrote it. The goal is to help the right clients find you while preserving what makes your practice uniquely yours.
Every recommendation is calibrated to support the practice you want to build. A therapist specializing in trauma needs a different strategy than a couples counselor, an OCD specialist, or a Parenting Coordinator. Your audit reflects those differences.
What you receive is an audit built on real market data, informed by a proprietary analysis process, and refined by a clinician who has spent decades working directly with clients. That combination is rare, and it's something neither a free SEO tool nor a general marketing agency can provide.
Is your website ready for an SEO audit?
An SEO audit makes your website findable. It can't fix a website that isn't built to be found in the first place. Before you book, your site needs to meet a few minimum requirements. If it doesn't, an audit isn't the right place to start.
You’re ready for an audit if:
Each of your services lives on its own page. This is the big one. If your couples therapy, individual therapy, and teen counseling are all stacked on a single "Services" page, there is no way for Google to rank for any one of them. Search engines rank pages, not paragraphs. You need a dedicated page per service you want clients to find you for.
Your website has been live for at least three months. Our audit looks at how your site has performed in search over time, so a site that launched a few weeks ago hasn't built up enough of a record to diagnose. We can audit a site no matter what it's built with, but hands-on implementation of the changes is available for Squarespace sites only.
Your website already turns visitors into inquiries. SEO brings more people to your site, but more traffic to a page that doesn't convert just means more people leaving. If visitors rarely reach out, that's worth fixing before an audit. Our CRO service handles exactly that.
If your site isn't there yet: if you have all your services on one page, or your main navigation doesn’t guide your website visitor where they need to go, you’re at a different starting point. What you need first is foundational website work, not an audit. My Website Design service builds the structure; then an audit has something to work with. Not sure which one you need? Book a free consultation and I’ll help you figure it out.

Everything in the Basic audit — and then we implement it. Ultra-Premium Audit
The Plan + Strategy + Done For You
My highest level of partnership. FAQs about SEO Audits for Therapists
-
A clear, prioritized report on your chosen page — written in plain language, not SEO jargon. It tells you what's keeping the page from ranking and what to do about it: page structure, headings, copy, keywords, and the technical issues I find. With my Premium and Ultra-Premium audits, you don't just receive the plan, I carry it out for you in Squarespace.
-
Free SEO audit tools run an automated scan and hand you a long list of technical flags, with no sense of what matters or what to do first. They don't know you're a therapist, they can't read your market, and they certainly can't tell whether a recommendation is ethically appropriate for a mental health practice. My audit combines a professional research platform, a deep data analysis, and review by a licensed therapist. You get judgment and a plan, not just a printout.
-
No. That's the entire point of working with me. I translate everything into plain, specific instructions. With the Basic audit you receive a plan any reasonably comfortable Squarespace, Wix, or WordPress user can follow. With Premium and Ultra-Premium, you don't even do that — I handle the implementation while you focus on your clients.
-
Because SEO advice written purely by marketers routinely misses important ethical and clinical considerations. It can push language that overpromises, sound nothing like a clinician, or attracts the wrong clients. Every audit is reviewed by me, a clinician with more than 25 years in private practice, so the plan is competitive and clinically sound.
-
This is one of the most common issues I see, and it's worth understanding. Google ranks individual pages, not sections of a page. If three services share one page, there's nothing for it to rank for any single service. In that situation an audit isn't your first step — foundational website work is. My Website Design service builds proper service pages first. If you're unsure where your site stands, book a free consultation and I’ll help you figure it out.
-
I can audit a website on any platform — the research and the plan don't depend on what you built your site with. But hands-on implementation (the Premium audit) and new page builds (the Ultra-Premium audit) are available only for Squarespace websites. Squarespace is the platform I build in, and it's where I can get the best results.
-
The audit itself is delivered within a week of receiving access to your site and the details I need. Implementation timelines for Premium and Ultra-Premium depend on scope and are confirmed during your consultation. A reminder on SEO generally: an audit gives you the plan quickly, but search rankings still take months to respond once changes are live. The audit is the fast part. The results compound after.
